[Merz B. Schwanen]

COMPANY INFORMATION

Balthasar Merz started running the textile factory on the Swabian Alps in Germany in 1922. In 2011, one of his 90-year-old henleys was discovered at a flea market by Peter and Gitta Plotnicki, who were so taken by every detail of the fine knit, that they decided to visit the factory. Before long, they had acquired the company, renovated the building, and restored the original machines to full working order. Today, they continue to make a range of basics featuring the same captivating details and precise manufacturing standards as those a century ago—only now with organic, sustainable textiles and a range of classic colors. Their factory is one of two in the entire world that utilizes circular or “loop wheeled’ knitting. And the only one in all of Europe.
